We have developed a
methodology for training and supporting linguists and engineers who don’t have the complete
skill set needed. We do the training in one of three ways:
1. a formal two week course for up to 15 participants. This can be also be used as a means of selecting project workers from a number of candidates.
2. a more informal one week course for a smaller number of particpants (max 5) who have already started work on the project, and focusing on particular needs.
3. on the job training using the web and phone, coupled with at least one face to face meeting.

As LLSTI scales up to include more
partners, the training methodology will evolve. We intend to make it easier to
run remotely, and in time to decentralise the training, so each region
has its own training centre eg South Africa for the African Continent, India for
South Asia etc., run by the local partners. As the initiative grows, the number
of partners able to train will also grow, enabling the whole program to scale.
